Serologiczna diagnostyka bakteryjnych zakażeń człowieka – błędy popełniane w wyborze i wykonaniu badań laboratoryjnych oraz w interpretacji ich wyników
[Serological diagnosis of bacterial infections – mistakes in the selection and execution of laboratory tests and in interpretation of the results]

STRESZCZENIE

W pracy przedstawiono w praktycznym ujęciu najczęstsze błędy popełniane w wyborze i wykonaniu serologicznych badań laboratoryjnych oraz podczas interpretacji ich wyników. Na przydatność badań serologicznych w diagnostyce bakteryjnych zakażeń człowieka wpływ ma wiele czynników, takich jak rodzaj patogenu, kliniczny przebieg choroby, swoistość i czułość metody czy też okres choroby w którym uzyskano do badania próbki surowicy. Podczas interpretacji wyników badań należy brać pod uwagę klasę i poziom wykrywanych przeciwciał, możliwość wystąpienia nieswoistych reakcji krzyżowych, wiek pacjenta, przebyte szczepienia ochronne czy też ewentualne niedobory odporności.

ABSTRACT

In this study the most common mistakes in the selection and execution of serological laboratory tests and in interpretation their results were presented. The usefulness of serological investigation in the diagnosis of bacterial infections is influenced by many factors such as the type of pathogen, the clinical course of the disease, the specificity and sensitivity of the method and the phase of disease in which the serum sample was taken. Interpretation of test results should take into account the class and level of antibodies, the possibility of non-specific cross reactions, age of the patients, protective vaccinations and immunity deficiencies.
