ABSTRACT

The National Register of TB conducted by the Department of Epidemiology Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases in Warsaw in 2016 reported 6444 cases of tuberculosis, which of 94.9% (6116 cases) were pulmonary tuberculosis, and 5.1% were extrapulmonary tuberculosis (328 cases).
Materials and Methods: The subject of this work is to present microbiological diagnosis of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. We analyzed tuberculosis patients in the years 2008-2016, who were registered in the framework of the monitoring programs of tuberculosis in Poland.
Results: The test group consisted of 12039 patients with bacteriologically confirmed tuberculosis.
In the analyzed three studies in 2008-2016, the majority were men. In the analyzed years extrapulmonary tuberculosis was twice as often diagnosed in men - 438 cases, than in women - 201 cases.
Conclusions: This study describes the clinical characteristics of patients with extrapulmonary TB in Poland. Our data show that the most frequent forms of extrapulmonary TB pleural TB.
